2024 Juneteenth Series: Apollo Legends

My 2024 Juneteenth Series: APOLLO LEGENDS includes six prints. The images feature the Apollo Theater marquee paying tribute to James Brown, Michael Jackson, and Prince upon their final exits. The three other images feature announcements for the theaters’ 75th anniversary, its regular Showtime at the Apollo Amateur Night, and one of the last shows for the acclaimed Ebony Fashion Fair.

All prints are on metallic paper. Available for $26.19 USD each.

The Juneteenth Series showcases my photography of historic and necessary elements of Black History in the United States.

About the Apollo

The Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York, opened in 1934. 2024 is its 90th year of operation. The Apollo was the first theater to allow Black people to perform after the Harlem Renaissance, and became a primary venue for Black entertainers and audiences.

Since opening, the Apollo has been a symbol of Black cultural awareness and a meeting space for social and civic advocacy.

In the Apollo, the world sees Black folks entertaining themselves, but the reality is we have been feeding and growing off of our collective creativity for ninety years.
