On August 20, 2024, I was pleased to attend a rally for Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz as they hosted the largest watch party I’ve ever attended. On the jumbotron of Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum, the festive roll call of the 2024 Democratic National Convention was streaming live with the most hyped announcers ever for a political event.
The energy and excitement in the stadium was unlike anything I’ve ever been a part of.
In my eagerness to get a great shot, I packed my Sony A7iii full frame camera with a wide and specialty lens, my drone, and my Samsung Galaxy in various pockets. I wore cargo pants and a flowing deep pocket sweater.
At the door, they refused to let me in with my drone. My intent was to capture the outside crowd, but folks were so packed together as we inched towards the doors, I didn’t dare step away to fly the drone. My intention didn’t matter. Security gave me the option to return the drone to my car or leave it at the door. The doors were closing in less than ten minutes. I hustled so hard to the parking lot, I thought my heart was going to burst from my chest.
Needless to say, I made it back before the doors closed!
If the event hadn’t been packed, I would have found a seat and perhaps not gotten up for fear of losing my spot. Fortunately for me and my portfolio, each doorway I approached was overflowing with people. People were standing shoulder to shoulder, chest to back behind all the last rows. In the passages with lax attendants, people lined and sat on the stairs. For this reason, I captured a 360° view of the interior throughout the delegate roll call, Governor Walz’s speech, and Vice President Harris’s speech. I walked the perimeter of the stadium on three levels and captured some good images. It wasn’t planned, but some of the images will make great additions to my 360 MKE Series.
More appropriately and timely, I pulled three images for a Kamala for President Series. These three images represent the energy and excitement of the evening very well. I hope they are a harbinger of what’s to come. 😶🌫️
Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz were officially nominated for President and Vice President of the United States of America this evening while they were hosting this rally in Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum. The stadium seats 17,000 to 18,000 people and they filled it to the rafters. A tidbit for those watching crowd sizes. 😉
